In addition to the regular undergraduate admission requirements, Rensselaer currently stresses the following requirements for its undergraduate international applicants:
Freshman Applicants
- A completed application with official copies of all academic transcripts from secondary schools, with English translations.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for all international students, including those attending high school in the US, unless you scored 580 or above on the critical reading portion of your SAT exam. Rensselaer expects a TOEFL score of at least 230 CBT, 88 iBT, or 570 PBT.
- Evidence of financial support to cover educational and living expenses is also required for students who will study on a non-immigrant (F-1 or J-1) visa.
- Students applying from countries (such as China) that do not offer our required standardized tests will be considered without testing on a case by case basis.
Please refer to our Freshman Admission Requirements section for information on academic preparation, standardized test, and portfolio requirements.
Transfer Applicants
- A completed application with official copies of all academic transcripts from secondary schools, with English translations.
- International students attending college in the U.S. for less than two years should take the TOEFL.
Please refer to our Transfer Admission Requirements section for additional requirements and information.
