Athletics at Rensselaera cornerstone of campus life and the student experience. Athletics participation is a vital part of the student experience atRensselaerand helps student-athletes to excel both athletically and academically, while building leadership and teamwork capabilities. Seventy percent of undergraduate students actively participate in athletics. Rensselaer athletics offers 23 varsity teams, 50 intramural and club sports. A variety of sports-related organizations ranging from billiards and bowling to squash and volleyball allows students countless opportunities for physical fitness, competition, and recreation. Be a part of the action and fun of intramurals or club sports. Intramural and Recreational Programs An extensive intramural athletic program offers competition in 24 sports: baseball, basketball, billiards, golf, gym hockey, ice hockey, indoor soccer, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, flag football, track, badminton, aerobics, wallyball, wiffleball, dodgeball, and volleyball. Two intramural leagues are sub-divided into as many divisions as necessary to accommodate all who are interested and to provide a level of competition commensurate with abilities. Recreational opportunities of all descriptions are available to all students. Additional Intramural Information Inter-Fraternity Sports Council League The Rensselaer Inter-Fraternity Sports Program consists of 20 houses, 10 sports, and tournaments, with more than 1,000 participants each year. The program employs more than 50 students each year in positions such as officials, supervisor, and coordinators. Engineers League The Rensselaer Intramural Sports Program provides the opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to engage in individual and team activities at various skill levels. The program consists of two leagues, 20 sports, and tournaments, with more than 2,000 participants each year. Activities are offered each semester, including limited activities during the summer semester. Varsity Athletics Rensselaer sports teams are bringing recognition and honors to the Instituteon and off the field. Over the past decade, Rensselaer ranks among the leaders in the entire nationall Divisionsin the number of National Academic All-Americans. Individually, Rensselaer student-athletes captured league Player of the Year honors, Rookie of the Year awards, Student-Athlete of the Year recognition, and a World Junior Championship gold medal in men’s hockey, among many other honors. In the 2009-10 season, our student-athletes captured seven Liberty League Championships and four teams (women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse) and several individuals participated in NCAA Tournaments. Rensselaer has two Division I and 21 Division III varsity intercollegiate teams. The men’s and women’s ice hockey teams compete at the Division I level in ECAC Hockey. In three sports, Rensselaer also fields junior varsity teams. Rensselaer is a member of the NCAA, the ECAC, and the Liberty League.
