Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Our students are innovators and problem solvers who want to follow their passion for art, writing, economics, and science and look forward to leadership positions in a global and technological society. As technological change continues to press forward at an increasingly urgent pace, the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) is preparing students to succeed in an ever-evolving world. Our students build bridges from the liberal arts to the disciplines of science and engineering through the study of technology’s role in society. With a faculty populated by academics whose research connects the humanities to science and technology, HASS emphasizes education at the intersection of disciplines, infusing traditional liberal arts subjects with leading-edge technology. Students in the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences major consider the social aspects of gaming while developing the technical skills necessary for leadership in game development and simulation industries. Electronic Media, Arts, and Communication students explore a variety of multimedia topics within art, technology, and society. Design, Innovation, and Society majors combine the technical sophistication of design and engineering disciplines with the social and cultural aspects found in an arts and humanities education to address the social and environmental needs of the 21st century. Ranging from artists and philosophers to cognitive scientists and game designers, HASS graduates are prepared to enter the workforce in a global economy that requires intellectual versatility, flexibility, and the ability to approach complex problems in innovative ways.
